Self-Portrait
For my self-portrait, I want to create a big picture including the images that show how much I have grown throughout the time.
The first photo in this portrait is my high school senior year photo. In the US, this is considered just a normal picture that every student take when they are about to graduate from high school. However, in my country, Vietnam, this is a really new thing and my class of 2009 is the first class that has its own yearbook in the history of my high school. As the President of the class for three years, I had seen myself grown to be a better person with good leadership skill who is able to make plan and work with other people to complete the job effectively.
Another photo in my self-portrait is a picture of me and my father when we were on a boat in Ha Long Bay. It was the summer before I came to the US to study abroad for 5 years. I like this picture because my father is the kind of man I want to be in the future. Instead of talking about what he needs to do, he simply finds the way to do it and finishes his work as quickly as possible. He teaches me a lot of things and shows me the way I should go in order to achieve success in the future. I am lucky to have a father like him.
The third photo in the portrait is from my trip to Kentucky to attend University of Cincinnati Sustainability Summit. It was the first trip that took me out of Ohio and it was indeed a very fund and helpful weekend. In 2 days at the summit, I met many inspirational people that show me how small I am when standing with them. The people I met there are who always have great ideas to contribute and are not afraid to speak out in front of a lot of people that have different kinds of opinion. They show me what kind of skill I should learn in order to be confident in the future.
Besides learning and involving in extracurricular act ivies, soccer is my favorite sport that I play every week with my friends. To me, it is not only a game but also the opportunities for me to live healthily, make new friends and learn how to work in a team. I started playing soccer when I first got into high school. Together with my classmates, we formed a team that practiced and competed with other team every week. In 3 years playing soccer, I learn how to share the victory with my teammates and sacrifice in order for the team to gain success.
The last picture in my self-portrait is the picture I took today, the day I created this self-portrait. It was me and my friend who was attending the speech of Barack Obama at University of Cincinnati. Although I’m not a really “political” person, I want to include this picture in my self-portrait to show that I am an active person. I do not want to waste my time to do something unproductive. Instead of spending my Sunday at home to play video games or watch TV, I went to see the President of the United States because I want to see how it is to stand in front of thousands of people who are judging every single movement of him and to see how he deals with such enormous responsibility in his hand.
I consider my self-portrait not completed because I want to update it with many new interesting activities that I have not yet discovered. In the next four years at University of Cincinnati, I will make the best out of my time so that I will not regret the opportunities I have while studying-abroad.
