Music has always been an important part of my life. Listening to music is a way for me to relax after school and work, to learn about love and life and also to express my feeling through playing guitar or singing a song.
I chose Listen to the Music because I always like learning about something new that I never know about before. Before taking Listen to the Music, classical music has never been my preference of choice because of my lack of knowledge in this genre and also the big differences between classical music and the music today. However, the class changed my opinion completely and classical music started growing in me after taking the class.
Listen to the Music was a really informative and fun honors seminar, including discussions about different genres of classical musics and many important historical composers. I was afraid to take this class at first because I did not know how to read music or play musical instruments beside guitar; however, it was not a problem since the class was designed exactly for students like me, who do not major in music. We started studying from small things like notes and tones and moved on to the history of classical music and also famous composers, singers and performances.
One of my favorite activities in this class was that I actually attended 4 live performances, including 3 plays at CCM and one of my own choice. Attending these performances with my classmates was not only a fun way to learn but also helped me understand the beauty of this music genre. Watching the live performances was the chance for me to see how much effort the composer and the performers put in in order to perfect the music.
In conclusion, Listen to the Music was an experience that changed my whole point of view about classical music. Thanks to the class, I now enjoy listening to Beethoven or Mozart and I am no longer afraid if somebody asks me to come to a classical music concert with them.
