In my sophomore year at UC, I joined Delta Sigma Pi, a professional business fraternity on campus. I wanted to make new friends and expand my network, and after searching for a while, I found Deltasig (the shorten name of my fraternity) to be the most suitable organization for me. To become a member, I first had to take a pledge course in six weeks in order to learn about the history and rules of becoming a fraternity brother. I had to remember about the secret codes of conduct, the meaning of the name Delta Sigma Pi, name of the founders and many more. In addition, to become a member of the fraternity, I had to look out not only for me but also other brothers in the group. For example, when a person needs help studying or preparing for an internship interview, other brothers in the fraternity, including me, should reach out and do the best we can to help that one. Furthermore, each brother has a set of requirements that he needs to do in one semester, including volunteer service, coming to chapter meetings, joining on a mission trip or raising fund for the chapter. It takes a lot of time to do all of these, but in the end, I find it meaningful to become a part of this fraternity. When the new semester comes, it is time to recruit new members for the chapter. As an old brother, it is my job to meet new people to talk about our fraternity and show them what they need to do to participate and what they will get from joining. To choose the best out of all the people apply, we do interview them to find the most fitted and well-rounded people that share the same vision with us. Also, we let them interview us back so we can answer all the questions they have about Deltasig. By doing this, we explain the obligations to the new members and also reinforce the value of our fraternity to them so the new pledge members will carry on in the future and pass them to the incoming members next year.
