Back in the day of high school, studying abroad was my biggest dream that I always thought about. When all of my friends were studying for the national examination to get into colleges in Vietnam, I spent most of my times studying English, taking practice tests for my SAT, preparing my US college applications and writing personal essays. Because studying abroad is not cheap and requires a lengthy preparation for both the student and his/her family, most teachers in my high school did not want me to follow this path. My teachers said that getting into a college in Vietnam would be better for me because with my grades, I could do that easily, while applying for American colleges would be difficult, both to get accepted and receive a scholarship. At that time, I felt discouraged and started to doubt myself whether should I continue to pursue my dream or give up to go the similar easier way that most people were doing. However, I was lucky to have my family supporting me although even my parents have the same thinking with my high school teachers. My parents were the one that did not force me to follow what they thought was better for me and that was the reason why I did not stop and kept on working for my application. I am thankful for having someone to believe in me because at that time, I even studied harder not only to pursue my dream but also to show my parents that I could take responsibility for my own action. I know that if I gave my best into what I wanted to do, I could achieve it. Even if I failed, I would not regret it and will get back to work even harder. Now, when looking back at what I have done, I felt happy because I did not give up that day and also because I have a wonderful family who supports me in everything I do.
